DemocracyWhen a government is corrupt, the people fight for their rights. This happened in Egypt because of the corrupt government, poverty and unemployment the citizens of Egypt are trying to overthrow their president, Hoshi Mubarak. He's been in power for 3 decades (30 years). This protest was held in Tahrir Square downtown. The people yelled 'Down with Mubarak'. 55 protester and 15 police were injured. Firebombs and rocks were used to kill protester and police officer. In my opinion, it's good people stood up for themselves. They weren't getting help from the government and things for them were looking pretty bad. If I were in Egypt I would have done the same thing to be able to feed my family. This always happens when it comes to dictators. The economy goes bad and things start coming for a tumble & that's when people start to rebel. A 17 day peaceful protest that gave good outcomes. Now the people won and they have a democracy that can lead to change for the better. Most women who were in the revolution fighting next to man for a democracy government died and were injured. After they won women weren't allowed to be at the table to write the new constitution as said in the post card "Rebellion". I think that was a very biased that women who help fight for the same thing men wanted and still got treated differently because they are women. Women and men should be equal to each other. Whatever a men can do, women can do too. When Hoshi Mubarak resigned everyone was exhilarated. They couldn't believe what they accomplished in only 18 days. People shouted and waved their flag showing their independence and achievement. Wendell Steavenson reports this on the events of Tahrir Square in Cairo. Bloggers, tweeting, singing, shouting people were surrounding the Square with excitement. Ever heard of "The Domino Effect"? One domino falls and the rest to do the same. Since Egypt came out and protested against their dictator other countries in Africa and Middle east are following their foot steps for change. But other countries are not the same as Egypt. Libyan's dictator, Gaddafi is also trying to be thrown off power because he is killing his people. He wastes his money on worthless things that doesn't benefit his people. Street fighting will make Gaddafi lose men and their morale may go down. People are protesting for a better government because they are in poverty. Other 6 countries are in the same process.
The situation in Egypt will forever stay in history. There are bad and good government that affects the citizens in different ways. These ways effect the way the people handle the situation in order to cause change. Some don't even get to change the way things work but it shows their effort in ways to better the world.
